Evidence-informed Traditional Chinese Medicine — researched, tested, explained

Who is behind this?

Swain Leung — independent researcher, TCM advocate, and the person who reads PubMed so you don’t have to.

I’m not a licensed TCM practitioner. I’m not a medical doctor. I’m someone who was failed by conventional medicine for a chronic condition, found real relief through TCM, and spent years learning the system from the ground up — the classical texts (Shang Han Lun, Huang Di Nei Jing), the acupuncture point systems, the herbal protocols, and most importantly, the modern clinical evidence.

This site is where I publish what I’ve found. Every article is cross-referenced against PubMed-indexed research. Every claim is sourced. Every limitation is stated.

What this site covers

tcm.tips is organized around the core pillars of TCM practice:

  • Pattern differentiation — Yin/Yang deficiency, Qi/Blood stagnation, Dampness/Heat syndromes, Five Zang-Fu organ systems
  • Acupuncture & acupressure — point locations, indications, evidence for pain, insomnia, digestive disorders, emotional health
  • Moxibustion — heat therapy protocols for cold syndromes and deficiency patterns
  • Herbal medicine & food therapy — evidence-informed protocols, tea formulations, dietary adjustments based on TCM constitutional types
  • Self-care & prevention — acupressure routines, Qi Gong basics, seasonal health practices
  • Research reviews — critical reviews of clinical studies comparing TCM interventions to conventional alternatives

My approach to evidence

  1. Explain the TCM mechanism — how does classical theory understand this condition or treatment?
  2. Translate to modern terms — what’s the physiological correlate? Which pathways are involved?
  3. Cite the evidence — PubMed systematic reviews, RCTs, and meta-analyses
  4. Give practical parameters — specific point combinations, treatment duration, frequency, outcomes
  5. State the limits — where evidence is weak, where individual variation matters

I don’t claim TCM cures everything. It doesn’t. I also don’t dismiss it because the mechanism isn’t fully understood by Western science. The clinical outcomes speak for themselves in chronic pain, functional digestive disorders, menstrual health, and stress-related conditions.
